Great War Tour
The majestic Great War Tour winds for about 80 kilometers around the legendary Col di Lana, a mountain symbol of the world conflict. Here, between 1915 and 1917, we witnessed bloody clashes between the Italian Alpini, the daring Austrian Kaiserjäger and the enterprising German Alpenkorps. Now, this mountain stands as a memorial, and the ski route dedicated to it is also known as the "Peace Tour".
During the route, the surroundings of the Col di Lana offer spectacular views that embrace famous peaks such as Civetta, Monte Pelmo, Tofane, Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella and Marmolada, which adorn the landscape with their majesty.
However, keep in mind that the Great War Tour is a challenge reserved for only the most experienced skiers.
If you're going to do the entire route, you'll need to put in six to eight hours of pure effort. To do this in a single day, you should leave in the very early hours of the morning. Otherwise, you can split the experience into two days, allowing you to explore the various ski areas within it more fully.
If you want to start the Great War Tour in the best possible way, the favorite starting point for skiers is the suggestive Civetta area. However, you can also choose to start your adventure from San Cassiano, Corvara, Arabba or Malga Ciapela.
Get ready to challenge your limits and immerse yourself in a one-of-a-kind skiing experience filled with remembrance and gratitude to those who sacrificed so much for peace.
The breathtaking descents that wind from Lagazuoi to Armentarola and from Punta Rocca to Malga Ciapela, crossing the Marmolada glacier, are simply spectacular. With its 12 kilometers of pure adrenaline, this is undoubtedly the longest slope in the Dolomites.
