Vulcano slope -Pozza di Fassa Dolomites
The Vulcano slope is one of the treasures of the Buffaure Ski Area in Pozza di Fassa. This recently inaugurated black slope was designed to enrich the technical offer of the ski area and to offer a new descent towards the valley, which was previously only possible via a long blue panoramic route. The name "Volcano" recalls the local geological history: 230 million years ago, this area was an archipelago, and a volcano covered the cliffs with its lava. The mountain ranges of Colac-Buffaure, Monzoni and Padon retain traces of their volcanic origin, evident in the contrast between the dark volcanic rocks and the brilliant dolomite typical of the area.
The size of the Vulcano slope reflects the interest it arouses among skiers: it extends for 2,200 meters with a difference in height of 566 meters. It always offers a generous width of about 40 meters and an average gradient of 30%, reaching peaks of 58%.
Starting from the top station of the Pozza Buffaure cable car, the slope can be extended up to 3 km with a total elevation gain of 722 meters.
Inaugurated in 2014, the Vulcano slope is truly "explosive". After sharing a short section with the red "Panorama" slope, you proceed with a sharp turn to the right, facing a steep descent of 2 km that quickly takes you back to the departure station of the cable car in Meida. The route, which starts at 1,922 meters on the Buffaure, is extremely technical and designed for experienced skiers looking for an exciting challenge on challenging slopes.
